Epidemiology is the science that studies the distribution, frequency, and determinants of diseases and health-related events in human populations. Its essential objective is to contribute to the prevention and control of health problems through research, analysis, and the application of evidence-based interventions. Due to its relevance, epidemiological research requires effective channels for the dissemination of knowledge and discoveries. In this context, epidemiological research journals play a fundamental role.
Scientific journals dedicated to epidemiology serve as specialized platforms where experts, academics, and public health professionals can share results, discuss findings, and analyze trends. These publications foster international collaboration and the continuous updating of knowledge on infectious, chronic, environmental, and occupational diseases.
In this context, the Mexican College of Epidemiologists decided to begin publishing the Journal of Epidemiological Research and Surveillance with the primary objective of disseminating and promoting epidemiological research.
It is dedicated to publishing original studies, systematic reviews, statistical analyses, commentaries, and letters to the editor on public health, epidemiological surveillance, research methodologies, and health policies of local, regional, and global scope.
Scientific quality is guaranteed through the peer review process, where independent specialists evaluate the validity, relevance, and originality of submitted manuscripts. This process ensures that only works that meet rigorous criteria are published, thereby protecting the scientific integrity and reliability of the journal.
The publication is a quarterly, digital publication. It offers online access to articles, abstracts, and full issues, facilitating consultation and global dissemination.
We hope to contribute directly to the advancement of medicine, beyond the metrics of medical journals. This will be achieved by publishing research on new pathogens, transmission patterns, and social and environmental factors that influence public health. This will provide medical professionals, health authorities, and decision-makers with up-to-date and reliable information.
We believe our journal will be a great tool for the rapid dissemination of data, predictive models, mitigation strategies, and evidence-based recommendations. It will also facilitate the identification of emerging disease trends, the monitoring of outbreaks, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of intervention programs.
The global trend is toward open access, where the journal makes its content available to all interested parties free of charge. This democratizes knowledge and promotes equity in access to vital public health information. Therefore, the ERSJ embraces this trend and presents its content in open access.
Our challenge is to maintain editorial quality, speed up article review during health emergencies, combat misinformation, and ensure equitable access to scientific information. Digitization, the use of artificial intelligence for peer review, and the strengthening of international collaboration networks are part of the prospects for improving the publication and dissemination of epidemiological knowledge.
